Jim O'Hara Claims Higher Moral Ground for Non Chemicals Water Treatment Systems Salesmen |

As Regional Field Manager for Clearwater-Dolphin Corporation Jim O'Hara sells non chemicals water treatment systems. To his mind, this puts him a step above the typical chemicals salesman.
Not only does he think the technology deserves greater attention; he says those who sell these systems deserve far greater respect from the buying public.
With 26 years as a former chemical salesman, O'Hara says he feels justified in claiming that the non chemicals salesmen have a lot more to offer: in technology, in expertise, even in what he sees as an "altruistic interest" in their customers.
According to O'Hara, today's non chemicals systems tend to offer the customer tremendous savings over the life of the equipment. In addition to energy savings, there are water savings (both incoming and the more expensive outgoing), record keeping savings (no tracking of biocides), and savings in various regulatory compliance costs.
You can read O'Hara's entire article here (PDF), including some installation photos.

That posting sounds like it comes from a disgrunted, sour grapes, former Nalco or Betz salesperson who was let go.
We don't hold non-chemical people to higher standards. We hold them to the same standard as the chemical salesperson. That standard being - If your system does what you say, is it certified to do the same by an independent, disinterested certifying organization like WQA, NSF, UL, etc. I know of none of the non-chemical systems or technologies that have that certification.

Wow. Rather than discuss whether or not Jim is held to a higher standard than chemical salespeople, lets all vote to hold him to a higher standard in writing!
That was a tough article to read. He should return to school for a remedial English course if he plans to continue writing for publication beyond his Christmas newsletter.
Or we can all band together to help him out right here by adding a favorite gaffe to your post. Here's (one of) mine:
Any time a perspective Non Chemical customer is approached, they will more then unlikely go to their current water salesperson and ask the question, ?have you ever heard of this system and does it actually works??

I think Jim also needs some training in anger management. If you read between the run-on sentences, there are a few issues there.
Higher standard #2: Customers DO want to hear the advantages of any particular product. Customers DO NOT want to hear blather about how awful the competition is. Believe it or not, most people have a positive IQ and can decide for themselves what would work best in their application. They just need the facts.

Obviously Mr. O'Hara has never taken a class in logic. He has absolutely no foundation for his rambling, other than to admit he apparently made a living as one of those "Chemical Salesmen" for some part of those 26 years.
Using a one or two sites to pass judgement on all chemical treatment systems is absurd.
My biggest question to the company is this - Who approved this drivel for publication? If I read this as a potential customer I would walk away regardless of whether it really worked or not.
I do like the picture of "Corrosion taking place" More fun than watching grass grow or paint dry.

To Mr. O'Hara I offer the following:
I am very interested in your claims and the validity of your statements. I am interested in increasing my understanding of water treatment using your product. I am interested in visiting three of your clients in Illinois, Missouri or Iowa to study the water quality and Dolphin performance and supply you and this blog, with the findings. Email me at LorenReale@mac.com. Let's put this issue to rest.

Loren - I hope Jim takes up your challenge. Please keep us informed. You might also consider authoring your own blog article. If you can compose a letter in MS Word, you've got the technical skill needed to write a blog article. To get started just send an email to don@waterandwastewater.com with the subject line "Sign me up for a blog author's account."

Well, Jim, it's 11 days and you have not replied. Again, I'm ready to go when you are as I'm very interested in learning more.

Well, Mr. O'Hara, it's now August 4, day 16, and nothing. Now, a lesser man might begin to think you were afraid. That's not me. I think you just need some motivation. Mr. O'Hara, if you'll email me so we can get this important effort going, I will send you, via the mail, the Star Wars figure of your choice. And, to prove my sincerity, I'll include bounty hunter Boba Fett in the list of choices available to you. If that doesn't interest you, a glow pen is allowed as a substitute. I'm ready to go Mr. O'Hara and so is America !

I have photos of a cooling tower system here in Oregon that we installed a couple of years ago with a Dolphin Unit. After two years we had to take it out due to severe scale buildup in the chiller and the cooling tower fill. I would be happy to email these photos to this publication or anyone who is considering purchasing a system.
