Carbon Source for Denitrification
Mar 03rd, 2008, 6:50pm

Where can I access a comprehensive evaluation (relative strengths, cost, dosage rates, COD value, dis/advantages, etc) of Carbon Sources (methanol, ethanol, MicroC, glycerin, etc.) for denitrification?  If there isn't such a source, I'd appreciate if some members could summarize what they know about each.

Thank you.

I have typically used methanol.  Due to explosivety concerns, I've also used MicroC and UniCarb that have proven to be comparable.  Unfortunately i do not have data i could forward to you at this time.

Polysweet!! It is very safe, non-flammable and works just as good as methanol. I've been using it for several years with great success. I can give you supplier information

what city/state are you in? I can get you the salesman's information in your area. The company is Polytec, Inc. They are based out of Mooresville, N.C. and have an identical plant site that is to be complete in the summer in Little Rock, AR.

i am in mass, i have tried a product up here called micro C and it worked well but we had some issues with high DO causing the growth of fillamentis bacteria which really messed up our sand filter.

I was just reading through this thread and when you said MicroC it caught my eye. However, there is a company called Grignard Company that is top notch in the denitrification industry.

Here if you need some re-assurance on their credibility:
