Position Summary:

Operate and maintain hi-tech water and wastewater systems to regulatory compliance daily.  Primary responsibility is to manage distribution, treatment and collections systems; which includes maintenance, system diagnosis, troubleshooting, vacuum truck operations, capital improvement planning, and coordination of efforts with the maintenance team and other departments.  The position requires a keen ability to manage an effective team and ensure results.  It is also important to conduct routine data trending, analysis, and reporting.  Develop and execute action plans based on findings.    

Duties (not limited to):
•      Streamline effectiveness of personnel and daily operations
•      Monitor:  collections systems, distribution systems, water plants and recycled water plants
o      Analyze instantaneous and historical data using SCADA to decide and act on needed process/operational adjustments (e.g. demand, chemical dosage, process adjustments)
o      Log all operational data and produce frequent reports
•      Perform collections and distribution system diagnosis and maintenance
•      Promptly troubleshoot process, instrumentation, data, and mechanical problems; perform basic maintenance, repair, and calibration; document and report needed system improvements
•      Communicate with local and remote technical support personnel
•      Manage, execute, and track work orders and maintenance for all systems
•      Continuously develop, organize, execute, and track operational and maintenance activities
o      Actions based on data analysis, math computation, and sound scientific logic
•      Liaison with engineering and staff functions for system improvements and technology implementation; participate in and provide consultation and feedback during integration
•      Understand financial constraints, employ alternatives and effectively manage budgeting
•      Initiate, develop and continuously update O&M SOPs and readiness plans
•      Manage procurement activities and track O&M costs
•      Respond to emergencies; participates in the on-call rotation
•      Perform other duties as needed

Required Skills:
•      Strength in both followership and leadership; team and individual work
•      Experience in managing effective teams and catalyzing results
•      Knowledge in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and concepts
•      Knowledge in chemistry, biology, and laboratory analysis/practices
•      Knowledge in production and collection processes
•      Extensive experience in troubleshooting systems (with creativity and resourcefulness)
•      Experience with SCADA systems or operation through HMI, MMI, GUI
•      Strong Data collection, testing, analytical, and presentation skills
•      Strong command of MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, ppt, Visio, Word, Access)
•      Superb verbal/written communication skills (including group presentation and status reporting)
•      Outstanding logistical, organizational, coordination, and planning skills
•      Experience in finding, reading, interpreting, and adhering to local, state, and federal regulations
•      Experience in fast-paced and high-pressure environments
•      Experience in a physical, field working environment
•      Strong ability to adapt and overcome adversity to achieve a given goal
•      Able to lift 50 lbs

Qualifications:
•      Clear evidence and demonstration of experience and knowledge of the abovementioned skills
•      Must possess a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License and have a clean driving record
•      Possess AZ Grade III water distribution, water treatment and wastewater collections certification, or is within 6-months of acquiring such

Employee may be required to obtain additional State of Arizona water/wastewater industry certifications.

Ideal Candidate:
•      Has ability to understand control systems and link complex events across large-scale applications;
•      Has worked in the water or wastewater industry and has State of Arizona water/wastewater industry certifications;
•      Has had supervisory experience;
•      Possesses an Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (Class C);
•      Has confined space qualifications and experience;
•      Is flexible, with desire to cross train into other areas and seek and accept additional responsibilities.
