Favorite pH Probe?
Jul 12th, 2010, 11:50am

For years we used Corning replaceable junction probes in our wastewater samples.  Replacing the junctions every few months gave them longer life.  Unfortunately Corning began manufacturing them out of the country and they weren't as reliable any longer.

The Accumet flushable junction combo probe (Fisher 13-620-109) was a great replacement at approx. the same price ($150 each).  These probes last a year or so in daily use in various parts of the WW plant.  Sadly I have found that Accumet has discontinued them and only offer one flushable model with a double junction that costs $320 or more.

Anyone like to nominate their favorite pH probe?  Vital features are:

-Ag/AgCl combination pH probe

-refillable with KCl

-epoxy body

-flushable junction

NOMINATIONS are now open!

Keith:

Single/double junction?

ATC/BNC connector?

reference solution (KCl) with/without Ag?

I've used Orion's Ross Sure Flow 8165BN for years without any issues--except when certain people turn the top instead of pressing on it to flush out the solution....

Forgot to add, mercury OK being present in probe?

Ross Surflow's are great probes but expensive ($325 plus)...that's why we liked the Accumet's cost of $150 each.

To answer Victor's questions, though:  single junction, BNC, KCl with or without AgCl is oK....no calomel probes please (Hg).

Have you taken a look at Oakton's pH probe offerings?  WD-35805-04, though it is a double junction.

We recently got a Hach IntelliCAL digital ph probe. I love it. Quick consistent readings, easy to use, and the meter is portable so one can take it out to the plant. They have multiparameter meters as well so it could help you in other areas as well. Pricey, but well worth it.

I would like to suggest the following:

WTW SenTix series pH probes w/S7, BNC or Water Proof DIN connector.  They also offer with or with ATC.
