H2O2 Potable Water Disinfection
Sep 16th, 2010, 10:49am

Hi Guys,
What are the practical pros and cons of using H2O2 for disinfecting potable water. I sometimes deal with wine farmers who run for the hills at the mere mention of Chlorine / Bromine based products. Apparently the later can have disastrous effects on the quality of wine.

What kind of life expectancy (before it breaks down) does H2O2 have in treated waters?
What residual and dosage rate should one look at?
And what is the most suitable test method?

If anyone can shed some light I’ll be much obliged.

Many thanks.

If the product is not good for wine.... the winemaker should stay away from it.
The "life expectancy" of Chlorine / Bromine in water depends on the starting quality of the water and the level of any residual added in the first place.
Sounds like great care is needed with this.

“Life expectancy” is probably not the most apt description (in fact it is quite clumsy)  of my concern with H2O2. I am interested in the stability of H2O2 at a suitable dosage for potable water disinfection.  Huh

Dear jacsteyn,
maybe you should take a look at the US Peroxide website. When I was looking for information on H2O2, I found this site to be useful.
