Ammonia vs Available Ammonia
Nov 29th, 2010, 6:57pm

We just received results back from an outside lab for our biosolids and have a quick question (the other lab is closed right now).

What is the difference between Ammonia and Available Ammonia (under the Nutrients Analyte group).

can reply to gilb@mukilteowwd.org as well as this message.

Thank you!

You need to ask the lab.  It is probably only used in your locality.  It may be

total versus distilled total
total versus an extracted amount
total versus TCLP extracted
etc

Your lab is like your hairdresser, only they know for sure.

When you find out, let the rest of us know.

Cheesy Excellent, so it wasn't a stupid question, we were all wondering what the "other" Lab meant, will call them today. Thank you!

For the 503 regulations ammonia is analyzed and the plant available nitrogen is calculated so that the proper ampunt of biosolids can be applied to farm fields and not exceed the agronomical nitrogen rate. Available nitrogen varies based on the form of nitrogen and the method of application. This is all I could think of about available ammonia.
