Foam in Aeration Tanks
Dec 19th, 2011, 2:22am

Hello,
I need some information on how to reduce the foam production in the aeration tanks for a Package Membrane plant of 2000 m3/day installed in a desert in Abu Dhabi in U.A.E.
The foam production started just last week , since 4 to 5 months no foam.

Thanks.

Hi,

Could you describe the foam a bit more? I have had some decent experience with foam and may be able to assist you?

I need to know the colour / depth / rough size of bubbles.

Thanks

Sookie

Typical biological foaming

1. White foam : high FM, shock load
2. Dark, brown leather foam : low FM
3. black in surface foam --> possible poison

Check your FM ratio and possibility of shock load

Hi Mohammed,
What is the nature of the wastewater you are treating. What is the appearance of the foam? Are there significant sources of detergents entering the plant i.e. laundries? As outlined by previous posters there are a number of possibilities so we need some guidance on the appearance of the foam in order to suggest remedies.

Best regards,
Cgillen
