Sulphates & chlorides at SBR
Mar 06th, 2012, 1:09am

Dear all, Hope u dng well,
I wud like to know dat, if sulphates and chlorides present at the inlet of SBR (C-Tech) affects the aeration performance and the quality of effluents like COD and BOD.
Characteristics at inlet to SBR:

1) Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) - 250 mg/l
2) Chemical Oxygen Demand - 450 mg/l
3) Total Suspended Solids - 400 mg/l
4) Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (as N) - 15 mg/l
5) Ammonia Nitrogen (as N) - 8 mg/l
6) Total Phosphorus (as PO4) - 5      mg/l
7) Sulfates - 120 mg/l
8) Fecal Coliforms - 106 Nos./100ml
9) Total Coliforms - 107 Nos./100ml
10) Chlorides - 265 mg/l
11) PH - 7.0 – 8.0
12) Oil & Grease - 15      mg/l

Quality of effluents at outlet of SBR:

1)      Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) - 10 or less mg/l
2)      TSS - 20 or less mg/l
3)      pH - 7.0 – 9.0
4)      Oil & Grease - Less than or equal to 10 mg/l
5)      MPN - Less than or equal to 250 Nos. /100 ml
6)      COD - Less than or equal to 100 mg/l
7)      Total Nitrogen - 10 mg/l or less
8)      Total Phosphorous - 2mg/l or less

Hi,

silmple answer: the chlorides and sulphates at these levels will have no relevant influence on the aeration performance, nor on the removal efficiency of BOD and COD

many other aspects can have a much greater influence.

can you describe what you are seeing that makes you worry?
