Anaerobic digester temperary mixers
Apr 25th, 2012, 5:19pm

A neighbouring community has had mixer failer in their anaerobic digester. All I know is that the digester is 20 meters in diameter. Can anyone give me any temperary mixing solutions. Sorry that I have so little information on this.

Mr. Penalty Box:

Sorry I can't answer your question but the City of Flin Flon attracted my attention.  Always the one that needs to find the reason for such an "interesting" name I had to Google it"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flin_Flon

I learned quite a bit from Wikipedia about Flin Flon.  The only other city named after a character in a novel.  The other city being Tarzana (after Tarzan).  Don't know about Tarzan being science fiction though.

Is there any way to attach a temporary pump to your current system?  Have you contacted pump vendors to see if they could provide you with necessary details?

Depth?

Is the level relatively consistent?  Is the tank top hatched large enough to install a submersible sewage pump with a top discharge port?

It's pretty impressive how much suspension can be performed with just one of these running with a short standpipe in the outlet, but you probably need at least 10HP total to have a chance of mixing at about 20' SWD, and they aren't cheap.

Maybe you could use the gas generated in the digester to mix the contents. The gases could be recirculated bask to the base of the digester in a manner similar to the use of air in an aerobic system, (but obviously not requiring such vigorous agitation).
Just a thought!!!!

Thank you, Victor. It is a beautiful place to live. If a person loves the outdoors, thousands of fresh water lakes, and doesn’t mine -40 degree winters. It’s amazing
