Job Description

The Field Service Technician/Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating. a variety of equipment and commercial vehicles for various construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks, curbs, ditches, gutters, and alleys.  Additionally, this position may perform field maintenance, inspection, installation or repairs in one or more areas such as system protection (line locates and inspections of the distribution system), replacing and installing meters, service (tap) and system connections, and inspecting and maintaining valves and hydrants.

Job Requirements

• High school or GED with the ability to read, write and comprehend English (maps, operational, maintenance, safety and quality instructions) and be able to carry out verbal and written instructions.

   

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.  Some vocational training and mechanical aptitude preferred, with the ability to read, interpret and record data from meters, gauges, panels, computer consoles and other equipment.

   

• Valid driver license with safe driving history

   

• Commercial driver license preferred but not required

   

• Ability to comprehend specifications, drawings and manuals.

   

• Ability to diagnose basic and routine mechanical problems and take remedial corrective action.  Experience safely using trade tools and equipment to maintain, troubleshoot or install mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.

   

• Experience in water distribution and collection

   

• Experience using an excavator and backhoe

   

• Experience using power, pneumatic, hydraulic, and hand tools.

   

• Experience using pressure gauges and precision measuring instruments.

   

• Ability to use a computer or computer device for record keeping.

   

• Experience in identifying and repairing water leaks and sewer backups
