Who once tried this method?

I am reading Operation Manual(WEF, 6th), the book has such a paragraph:

For gravity belt thickener monthly action:

Clean belt with a soap/bleach mixture. To prepare the soap/bleach mixture, use 1 cup of detergent and 3 cups of bleach to mix with 5 gal of water. The soap can be any laundry-type liquid detergent and the bleach can be any generic brand bleach containing 5.25% sodium hypochlorite. The water can be tap water. Use a power wash system to spray the soap/bleach mixture on the belt surface for cleaning. The spray pressure should be about 7000 kPa (1000 psig) and not to exceed 10 300 kPa (1500 psig).

who once tried this method? how about its performance?  I don't know how much the volume of 1 cup. Who can tell me?

Regards
Chen

I haven't tried this method, but one cup equals about 250 ml.

no experience with belt thickener, however, would try first with pressurized water without detergent and bleach. Then if not satisfactory adding low amounts of detergent. Bleach only occasionally, if at all.

This cleaning method works well.  I have used the soap/bleach solution by itself, applied it with a yard sprayer while the belt is running.  This clears out the buildup fairly well.  I  pressure wash the belt 1-2 times a year.  The soap/bleach solution I apply 3-4 times a year.  We operate the belt app. 25-30 hours a week.  I hope this helps.
