Under the direction of the Lead Utility Plant Operator (UPO) at TPWD's Guadalupe River State Park, this position is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to facilities, equipment and grounds. Serves as Back-up Utility Plant Operator and assists in the proper operation, monitoring, testing and maintenance of a water/wastewater plant, water distribution system, septic system, and wastewater collection system. Assists with natural and cultural resource management activities and provides general information about park rules and regulations to park visitors. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.
POSTING NUMBER: 12-00-519 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: •Graduation from High School or GED. Experience: •Three years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience. Licensure: •Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid Class "C" Texas driver's license and convert to a Class "A" Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment or a valid Class "A" Texas Commercial driver's license; •Must possess or be able to obtain, within two years of employment, a Class "C" Surface Water Treatment license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ); •Must possess or be able to obtain, within two years of employment, a Class "D" Wastewater Treatment license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with State and Federal regulations including the Department of Transportation (DOT) required drug and alcohol testing. ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS: Experience: •Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience: •Experience with Surface or Ground Water Plant systems; •Experience with Wastewater Plant systems; •Experience working with the public. Licensure: •A current Class "C" Surface Water Treatment license issued by TCEQ; •A current Class "D" Wastewater Treatment license issued by TCEQ; •A valid Class "C" Texas driver's license; •A valid Class "A" Commercial driver's license. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: •Knowledge of general maintenance techniques; •Knowledge of general custodial duties; •Knowledge of water and wastewater system operations; •Skill in effective verbal and written communication; •Skill in areas such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, equipment and vehicle repair and grounds maintenance; •Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, tractors, vehicles, welders, generators, and other mechanical equipment; •Skill in writing basic reports; •Skill in basic math calculations; •Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner; •Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; •Ability to learn and use all required programs including reservation, registration, and associated reporting software; •Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; •Ability to uniformly and consistently interpret and enforce interpret and enforce rules and regulations; •Ability to work under stressful conditions; •Ability to effectively train and supervise paid and volunteer personnel; •Ability to work as a member of a team; •Ability to perform duties in accordance with Department safety requirements. WORKING CONDITIONS: •Required to work in a high visitation public park with overnight camping; •Required to work 40 hours per week, includes various schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays; •Must conform to agency work rules, safety procedures and dress standards; •Required to adjust to changing schedules; •Required to perform physically strenuous work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions and rugged terrain.
