Can biomedia used in anaerobic condition?
Jun 15th, 2012, 12:14am

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering that bio-media or bio-carrier can be used in anaerobic process or not?
I know there is a risk of blocking these biocarriers with insufficient agitation.
Please let me know if you have an experience to apply biomedia in anaerobic process. What type of media had been used? How is the agitation capacity (kW/m3) determined? How do you control the blocking of media?

Thanks a lot.

Dear Liang 1957,

In anoxic chambers for Denitrification, mixers are used with biomedia. Anoxkaldnes, the industry leaders in MBBR technology have a lot of experience in this field. Specialised mixers to be used so as not to damage the biomedia. As the floating media has a tendency to float, generally the mixers are to be inclined downwards at an angle. ITT Flygt, ABS have developed specialised mixers for using with Anoxkaldnes MBBR Systems.

Best Rgds
