Someone told me a long time ago that you shouldn't touch UV lamps and certain Indicator Lamps with your bare hands while installing them. Something about the oils from your skin affecting them. That it would shorten their life. Any truth to that

wwwizard,  Yes,  our UV system manufacturer suggests wearing lint free, soft gloves when handling uv bulbs.  The oils  and dirt from bare hands can leave an imprint on the bulbs, shortening there life.  The only time bulbs are handled is when installing new bulbs or replacing bad ones which is not that often.  I hope this helps

I agree that the lamps and crystals should not be touched if possible.  70% or higher alcohol does a pretty good job of cleaning hand prints off if they have already been touched though.
