Suggestion For Effluent Recycle

SmileyAt present we are discharging Effluent @ 600m/hr to river....

Please suggest the methods to reuse or recycle it.

Discharge Effluent quality

COD <100 ppm
SS    < 50 ppm
PH     ~ 8-9
Conductivity-  3500-7000 us/cm (varies as season)

Other detail parameters analysis can also be done

Waiting for reply

First, you need to run a full wastewater screen.  Here is a starting list.  We also need to know the process where you plan to use the water.

Alkalinity (CaCO3)
Aluminum
Chloride
Chlorine
Color
Copper
“Heavy Metals”
(individual if suspected)
Iron
Manganese
pH
Silica
Sulfate
Suspended Solids
Total Dissolved Solids
Total Hardness (CaCO3)
COD
Total coliform or e-coli

Also, results like <100 for COD are not helpful.  You need to get results down in the 10 ppm range for COD and solids.

Do you want to reuse for industrial processes or agricultural.  Each has different requirements.

I'm not sure exactly what your purpose is with the water. If unsure, as Dr. Henry says, you should try to get as much analytical data as possible.

If this is being discharged to the environment it needs to meet any standards set by a local athority.

As you looking for ideas of what you can do with the water?

The water, if it meets requirements, can be used as industrial process water, irrigation water, dust control on construction sites, or even ground water recharge.  It can also be used as cooling tower water, although one must know what conductivity levels must be avoided.

The high conductivity probably will restict the potential applications without further processing. My thoughts are that your discharge limits are pretty lenient and that processing it for an additional use would involve considerable expense exceeding the cost of other sources of water (I'm thinking of RO at a minimum for other potential uses).
