DRO in Cake,
Jul 24th, 2012, 2:15pm

Hello all,

This may be over my head and above my pay grade to worry about. However I'd like some information if anyone can provide me a clearer picture.

The state regulatory agency says that Naturally occurring organic material, have to be cleaned up before test results are valid.

Are BioSolids from a secondary treatment plant normally high on DRO? ie 1,000mg/kg and higher?

Thank you, and I will clarify anything if I can if anyone needs more information.

OK.  What's "DRO?"  And, is someone likely to "get high on it?"

If we are talking Diesel Range Organics, it is possible.  In municipal sewage it would not be expected, but plenty of things from industrial processes can be detected as DRO.  Did the state suggest any way to remove the "natural" materials without also pulling DRO?  You may have to run a GC/MS technique for DRO to get the separation.

I wouldn't expect that this necessarily means biosolid sludge; although I've encountered "oil" in my front yard dirt in the past (from solvent extraction). DrHenry may be right in his analysis, but it would help if you could cite the specific regulation.
