Does anybody know a wastewater treatment plant using peracetic acid and/or hydrogen peroxide for final effluent disinfection?

Thanks,

Roberto:

Saludos.  What do you expect to learn from an agency that is currently utilizing peracetic acid for disinfection?

Hola Victor,
A Waste Water Treatment Plant wants to stop using chlorine when discharging to a river. One option for disinfection is Peracetic Acid which has been used in the food industry. I found limited literature on its use as a disinfectant for wastewater effluent.

Questions that I have:

1.      There is more than one formulation of the product. Mixed solutions containing Peracetic Acid (PAA), Acetic Acid, Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) and Sulphuric Acid exist in diverse proportions and concentrations. Is there one recommended mixed solution used as a disinfectant for wastewater effluent?
2.      Is there a recognized analytical method to measure PAA in the presence of Hydrogen Peroxide (HP); or the sum of PAA and HP?
3.      Is there an analytical method for the above appropriate for wastewater matrix?
4.      What is the recommended or regulated residual criterion for PAA in wastewater effluent?
5.      How are bioassays affected by the presence of PAA and/or HP?
6.      How is BOD or CBOD affected by PAA and HP?
