Description:  In this second session of a three-part lecture series on mixing and blending fundamentals, Eric Maynard, Senior Engineering Consultant with Jenike & Johanson, covers the basics of continuous mixing & sampling.

Continuous mixing processes are described for common industrial applications.  After discussion of mixing fundamentals, Eric then reviews specific continuous mixing equipment, such as rotating drum, blending ribbons or screw mixers, and gravity flow blenders.  Basic operating features, system advantages, and possible concerns with each mixer are presented in this session.

The basics of sampling is also discussed in this session.  Methods of sample collection and analysis are reviewed, along with common sampling pitfalls.  Eric presents the concept of nested sampling, which can provide help to diagnose blend uniformity problems.

Information from this lecture can effectively help an engineer, formulator, or plant operator with the continuous mixing and sampling fundamentals required to troubleshoot on-going mixing difficulties or help with selecting a new piece of equipment for a powder blending application.

Lecture includes downloadable class notes and a self administered quiz with answer sheet.  The seven-day subscription allows you to watch and review this video class as many times as you need.
