Plant/Process Description:
Town Becej is locate in north Serbia from 75km to the Hungary. The construction of a modern water supply system in Becej began in the late 70's. It consists of a central water source outside the town, a central water treatment plant and a water supply system distribution network (reservoir and a pump station).

About 24.000 inhabitants are connected to the public water supply network, that is 85% of the population living in Becej. The average water consumption (industrial and household) is 100 l/s and 150 l/s in summer period.

An important fact is that only a part of the town industry uses the public water supply network until other major plants and factories have their own wells. From the sources of 13 active wells, the water exploitation is 100-110 l/s which doesn't satisfy the need of the town that is 135 l/s Water treatment plant have degasification (methane),filtration (iron), 2500m3 tank, pumping station (3*110kW- Q=100l/s,H=65m 2*75kW-q=60l/s, H=65m) and disinfection equipment (chlorine).

Waste Water Treatment Plant

The construction work on the wastewater treatment plant began in 1972. Since Becej is a town of Pannonian type, the ground configuration allows no significant sewerage system level differences and due to this fact the construction of 7 pump stations is foreseen on the sewerage system. The ground configuration is on the other hand advantageous for the storm- water sewerage system. The construction of 16 main storm-water sewers was planned but only 5 have been built.

The precipitation collectors are the backwaters of the Tisa River and the Bezdan-Becej Canal. The collected wastewater quantities from households, industry and institutions are diverted to the wastewater treatment plant that was put into operation in 1989. The wastewater treatment is based on biologically active mud. The treated wastewater collector is the Bezdan- Becej Canal. The construction of this wastewater plant was conducted in phases, depending on the incoming wastewater quantity and quality. On the basis of constructed facilities (1stphase ) the wastewater treatment plant can be loaded up to next limits:

Hydraulic Q=7750m3/ day
Organic R=3000 kg BOC5/day
Equivalent population number 50,000
The water purification is up to 80-90%.
