Plant/Process Description:
The District is located in and adjacent to the City of Novato, Marin County, about thirty miles north of San Francisco. The area of the District is approximately 23.6 square miles, involving 183 miles of sewer line, and, at present, the District's treatment plants serve an estimated population of 60,000.
District facilities include 2 treatment plants with a combined design capacity of 6.55 MGD. The Novato Facility is a conventional activated sludge facility with teriary treatment and biological nutrient removal and dry weather rating of 4.53 MGD. The Ignacio facility is a trickling filter plant with a design dry weather flow of 2.02 MGD, a major reclamation facility, 37 outlying pump stations and an outlying dechlorination facility for combined outfall discharging to San Pablo Bay.
The administrative organization is headed by a Manager-Engineer who is responsible to a five-member Board of Directors selected by popular vote for four-year terms.
