Plant/Process Description:
The City of Jacksonville Beach facility is permitted as a 4.5 MGD wastewater treatment facility consisting of two 1.5 MGD contact stabilization wastewater plants and one 1.5 MGD step aeration wastewater plant.
The effluent is chlorinated and discharged to one of three equalization ponds, dechlorinated using sulfur dioxide (SO2) and discharged into a 24-inch force main that discharges to the St.Johns River at Sherman Point.
Residuals are aerobically digested, treated with a polymer and dewatered using a belt press. A 0.50 MGD reclaimed wastewater reuse system that has two 50 square feet backwash filters, a chlorine contact chamber,and an automatic valve diverts effluent to either the surface outfall or discharges chlorinated and filtered reclaimed water to the City of Jacksonville Beach Municipal Golf Course, municipal ball fields, and municipal operation and maintennce facility grounds.
