Plant/Process Description:
The Adelaide PCP is a conventional activated
sludge plant with seasonal nitrification through
two independent sections with a total rated
capacity of 36,400 m3/d or 8 million imperial
gallons per day.
The plant processes consist of grit removal, with
continuous phosphorus removal using chemical
precipitation, primary clarification in covered
tanks, aerobic treatment using actived sludge,
secondary clarification, and disinfection using
ultra violet light.
Waste activated sludge (WAS) is stored in a 2,250
m3 tank and thickened using three rotational drum
thickeners at a feed rate of about 21 L/s.
Thickened WAS sludge is stored in two tanks
before trucking to London's incinerator at the
Greenway Pollution Control Center.
Average daily effluent results in 2005 were 3
mg/L CBOD5, 6 mg/L suspended solids, 0.49 mg/L
phosphorus, 0.19 mg/l ammonia.
Arerating exercise is underway now that WAS
Thickening has been added.
