Plant/Process Description:
Project Profile
Roganstown House Hotel & Golf Club
The COMPACT waste water treatment plant
installed at Roganstown for the hotel and Golf
Club was built for Mclnerney by Fay
Environmental Services Limited of Dunshaughlin
County Meath.
The brief was to provide a high standard of
treated effluent for discharge on site, the
effluent emanating from a number of different
sources. The treatment system now commissioned
since May 2004 consistently produces a treated
effluent of less than 5mg/l SS, 0.5mg/l total
Phosphate and 8mg/l of Nitrates.
Furthermore the treated effluent has a Zero
count of Faecal and Total Coliforms per 100ml
sampled. This exceptional level of treatment is
achieved as follow; Firstly the combined
discharges from the Hotel, Golf Club, liquid
kitchen waste and housing units gravitate to an
inlet macerator pump sump from where they are
pumped to the biological SBR unit. Within the
SBR the combined mixed effluents are aerated to
encourage and sustain the growth of aerobic
organisms, which will digest the waste.
The effluent is aerated over a prolonged period
prior to discharge to a flow-balance tank. After
storage the effluent is pumped through a
tertiary sand filter for further polishing prior
to final treatment with on-site generated Ozone,
which totally disinfects the effluent and
imparts a positive Oxygen level prior to
discharge. The system does not require the
storage of any septic sludges or screenings,
unlike other systems, and as a result is
completely odourless in operation. Testament to
this fact is its close location to the hotel and
a number of tee boxes and golf pathways are
fairways. The system also exhibits very low
noise outputs and from more than 3 metres it is
not possible to determine it the plant is in
operation.
Any sludge stored is fully biologically
stabilized and is stored within the SBR. The
plant has fully integrated S.C.A.D.A. (System
Control And Data Acquisition) system which may
be accessed via the internet and which will also
call out any alarms to the operators. Fay are
presently also operating the plant under the DBO
principle.
Fay have templated the COMPACT and numerous
examples have been installed throughout the
Fingal, Meath and Kildare areas as well as in
other countrywide locations. The population
equivalent served by the plant was 600 persons
and was completed within 10 months. The
Consulting Engineers for the project were P.H.
Mc Carthy & Partners and the Architects were d+b
Architects.
