Plant/Process Description:
The first Industrial Zone wastewater treatment MBR plant, designed and constructed by EGESIS Environmental Tech. Ltd. was opened in June 2008. Since the water shortage has the first priority in the region, the plant designed with Membrane Bio Reactor, will serve to convert wastewater into the process water for the zone's member factories. The effluent will also be used for the irrigational purposes.

In the zone, the wastewater is sourcing from the very different kind of the industries such as dairy, alcohol, beverage, metal coating, wood process, etc. which are hard to treat even handled individually.

With this wide range of different wastewater quality, MBR tech. has been choosen for its advantages of reliable and stable effluent quality, cost effective operation, free of final clarifier troubles, good quality of the waste sludge.

The KUBOTA's submersible type plate membranes are used for the 1st phase. Just in 9 months, the plant is designed and constructed to treat 8000 m3/day wastewater at the final capacity, while the start up is the 1/4 of the total.

For the 2nd phase, in the very near future, the plant will double up its capacity just by adding a fine screen, a couple of pumps and the MBR units. To achieve the final capacity, the physical treatment and the MBRs should be doubled up.

According to its design, the final plate area of the MBRs will be 12800 m2, ie. each phase comprisis of 3200 m2. The pretreatment units are comprising of screens, strainers, Grit&Grease chambers followed by the chemical dosing units (stand-by) and finally aeration and MBR tanks.

There is no disinfection of the effluent in the plant, as the MBR plates' pore size doesn't allow the bacterias and viruses passing through. Waste sludge, which is taken directly from the return sludge tank, doesn't required to be thickened as it's already at 1,8% DS content. After the centrifuges dry material content increases to 22%.

It's planned to add a sludge stabilization unit while the plant will be upgraded to its full capacity.
