Plant/Process Description:
The Veazie (Maine) Sewer District operates a three cell aerated Lagoon system to treat up to 200,000 gal/day of sanitary sewerage.
The aerated lagoon system began serving the Veazie community in August of 1989. The unique features of the facility included ease of operation, low energy consumption, flexibility in operation, future expansion capability, and use of onsite soils for Lagoon liners. Also, the site layout avoided significant archeological areas on the property. The system includes 10 miles of collection system and one pump station. The first Lagoon holds up to 3 million gallons (11,400 m3), while Lagoons 2 and 3 each handle up to 1.5 million gal (5700 m3). Two operators share the responsibility for this plant, which provides service for approximately 2000 residents.
