NovaClear : Irrigation Water Without Disinfection

Peregian Beach, Australia -- Sunshine Coast based business leads world with new domestic water recycling technology. With the subject of water supply very much on every local and state government agenda and the minds of every Australian, an award winning Sunshine Coast company, EcoNova, has achieved a world first in domestic water recycling technology.

Their patented water recycling system NovaClear™ is the first domestic water recycling system certified for above ground irrigation without further disinfection (chlorine, UV or others). EcoNova™ is also one of the first private companies to achieve State government licensed water provider (utility) status.

NovaClear™, via MembraneSafe™ technology, produces class A+ water, the highest quality of water recognised by the Queensland Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), from domestic grey and black (waste) water and recycles it for use in above ground irrigation.

This means that all domestic water (black and grey) used in the home as a result of showering, washing clothes, using the kitchen sink and flushing the toilet can be treated on site and re-used thereby saving valuable potable (drinking) water.

The NovaClear™ domestic system can provide up to 2.2 kilolitres (2,200 litres) of recycled A+ water a day. In ‘people terms’ this equates to 10 times the capacity of today’s average potable water consumption of 200 litres per person, per day. EcoNova also provides a guarantee of water quality and purity via independent testing.

EcoNova’s General Manager, Christian Uhrig explains, “The average household currently uses 65-80% of its water for non-human consumptive purposes. By using a NovaClear™ domestic water recycling system Australian households can save up to 450,000 litres (or $1,000) of water per year” he said. “It has the potential to save Australia from drought” he added.

The NovaClear™ is a compact, single tank system constructed from lightweight, high density polyethylene and is easily installed. It can be fitted to new homes or buildings or retrofitted, for example, as the ideal replacement for a septic tank.

EcoNova’s MembraneSafe™ technology and independent water systems are already in use in over 30 applications including private homes and commercial developments.

EcoNova systems are recycling water at Petrac’s Noosa North Shore Resort and Beach Road development (where it recycles 140,000 litres of grey and black water a day for reuse – 240 kilolitres/day at final stage), a 21 house development known as S3 in Brisbane’s Manly West (which is completely independent from towns water supply due to EcoNova’s rainwater harvesting and recycling systems) and O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park, Queensland amongst others.

As an environmental consultant, EcoNova supports clients in the design of developments/projects and facilitates the application process with authorities.

Although the technology can be used in commercial, marine, sports, mining and many other industry applications, fitting a domestic system in the home ensures that every consumer can make a water conservation difference.
