Alexandria, VA -- Dr. Perry L. McCarty, the 2007 Stockholm Water Prize Laureate and Silas H. Palmer Professor of Civil Engineering, Emeritus at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., will deliver the keynote address during the Opening General Session of WEFTEC.07 – the Water Environment Federation’s 80th annual technical exhibition and conference – later this year in San Diego, Calif.

Recipient of the 2007 Stockholm Water Prize, Professor McCarty has combined a deep knowledge of physical, chemical, biological and microbiological processes to produce technological developments that are used all over the world as the basis for design and operation of wastewater treatment systems.

A WEF member since 1957 and WEF Honorary Member since 1989, Professor McCarty is recognized as a pioneer in biological and chemical processes for the safe supply and treatment of water. Specifically, his work has led to more efficient biological treatment processes, including anaerobic treatment systems for municipal and industrial wastewater systems, biological nutrient removal, and the development and use of biofilm reactors.

Dr. McCarty will anchor a program of speakers from both inside and outside the industry who will share dynamic presentations on the hottest water-related topics. Scheduled for Sunday, October 14 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, this high-profile event sets the tone for the conference that draws thousands of water quality professionals from around the world each year.

With a world-class technical program of 119 technical sessions, 29 workshops and 8 facility tours, WEFTEC is the largest conference of its kind in North America and offers the best water quality training and education available today. Also recognized as the largest water quality exhibition in the world, the WEFTEC exhibition provides attendees with unparalleled access to the latest water quality developments, research, regulations, solutions and cutting-edge technologies.
