Alfa Laval : Dewatering Technology for Canada

STOCKHOLM, Sweden -- Alfa Laval, a world leader in heat transfer, centrifugal separation and fluid handling - has received an order for environmental equipment from The Regional Municipality of York for the Duffin Creek Water Pollution Control Plant in the Regional Municipality of Durham in Canada.

The order, which is valued at about SEK 50 million, is the second major waste water order to Canada in 2007. The equipment is part of an upgrade of the plant’s dewatering facilities. Delivery will take place in 2008 and 2009.

“The need for efficient handling of waste water and sludge is increasing worldwide and Alfa Laval supplies efficient systems to reduce sludge volumes”, says Lars Renström, President and CEO of Alfa Laval.

Alfa Laval offers a complete product range covering the whole sludge treatment process including equipment for thickening, dewatering, heating, cooling, heat recovery, pasteurisation and a decanter autopilot for optimizing plant operation.

Not only is the technology efficient in sludge treatment by decreasing the amount of waste for disposal, it also means that less lorries are needed to transport the sludge to its end station.

Did you know that Alfa Laval has installed more than 6,000 decanters to waste water treatment, and is involved in the treatment of sludge from at least 250 million people? There is a further potential since only a fraction of industrial and municipal waste water is cleaned before being handed back to nature.
