Brussels, Belgium -- The European Water Association opened the doors of its new office in Brussels on 1 September 2008. Positioned close to the European Commission, the principal aim of the office is to strengthen communication with all European institutions.
The creation of an office in Brussels situated at 4 Rue de la presse, 1000 Brussels, Belgium and the appointment of the Head of External Affaires, Mr Frédéric de Hemptinne will greatly improve the communications between the European Water Association, the European Commission and other relevant Institutions and Organisations in Brussels.
EWA represents European water professionals and specialists through 43 members (national associations, water related companies and institutions) in 28 countries. Its activities are supported by the European Commission under the Life+ program.
There will be an official opening of the office on 3 November 2008 on the eve of the EWA Fourth Brussels Conference which is organised in cooperation with the European Commission and entitled European Water Management and the Economic Aspects of the Water Framework Directive
The European Water Association (EWA) is an independent non-governmental and non-profit making organisation promoting the sustainable and improved management of the total water cycle and hence the environment as a whole.
It is one of the major professional associations in Europe that covers the whole water cycle, wastewater as well as drinking water and water and wastewater treatment related wastes. With member associations from nearly all European Countries, EWA includes most of the current European Union Member States as well as Norway and Switzerland.
Today, EWA consists of 25 European leading professional organisations in their respective countries, each representing professionals and technicians for wastewater and water utilities, academics, consultants and contractors as well as a growing number of corporate member firms and enterprises. EWA thus represents about 50,000 professional individuals working in the broad field of water and environmental management.
