Alexandria, VA -- The Water Environment Federation (WEF) is proud to announce that Mayor Richard M. Daley will give a keynote speech at the largest water quality conference in North America attended by participants from many countries.

If it’s about water, it will be at WEFTEC.08 in Chicago October 18-22. The unrivaled exhibition and conference is an annual event that brings experts in water and wastewater together to discuss the latest developments in research and technology.

Recognized as one of the greenest cities in America, Chicago is an ideal host for this event. Mayor Daley has led the effort to make Chicago a global leader in adapting green practices. Under Daley’s active leadership, the city has long focused on programs and practices that protect water quality, promote sustainability, and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

With a population of nearly 3 million residents, Chicago installed the first-ever municipal green roof in the U.S. The city has also initiated a Chicago Climate Action Plan while creating green jobs and planting 500,000 new trees.

The mayor will speak about Making Chicago a Global Leader on Water and Sustainability. This keynote will provide an opportunity for WEFTEC attendees and water leaders from around the world to hear Mayor Daley share his experiences, and provide his perspective on environmental issues.
