Blue Water : Salsnes Filter Exceeds Expectations

  .
Foley, AL -- Small town, big savings. With increases in both resident and summer-time tourist populations, Riviera Utilities of Foley, Alabama needed to upgrade their wastewater treatment facility. Blue Water installed a Salsnes Filter system last fall, which came online in December.

The results are in! Salsnes has exceeded expectations at the facility. It has provided the necessary treatment capacity increase, all while allowing the plant to begin realizing savings in energy costs from changes in operations.

Remarkable Results

The Riviera Utilities operational staff reports that the quantity of inorganic materials removed by the Salsnes Filter is over twice that from their previous static screening and grit removal systems. This reduction of material going to their secondary treatment process has allowed them to actually idle part of the plant, including significant decreases in blower operation.

From Demonstration to Design

In early 2008, Blue Water conducted a four-week demonstration of the Salsnes Filtration technology as a viable method for the removal of insoluble particulate matter from the front of the wastewater plant, therefore reducing the load on their secondary treatment system.

Following the successful demonstration of the Salsnes Filter, Riviera Utilities purchased a SF-6000 model Salsnes Filter with treatment capacity of up to 2.5 MGD. Riviera Utilities chose the Salsnes Filter because it would give them the needed treatment capacity increase in a small footprint, and at a fraction of the cost of other alternatives.

About Blue Water

Blue Water is proud to offer a broad platform of water treatment technologies, from primary wastewater treatment to advanced effluent polishing steps to environmental remediation processes. We strive to meet our customers' needs cost-effectively, considering both capital expense and ongoing operations and maintenance costs.
