K-Tron Solves Soda Ash Feeding Problem at Water Plant

K-Tron feeder discharging soda ash.
Pitman, NJ -- The Village of Swanton was experiencing trouble with their Wallace and Tiernan, dense soda ash feeder. It was becoming mechanically unreliable and costly to repair. Mike Fields, Water Plant Superintendent, approached Bob Bidwell of David Industrial Sales to see if Bob had a solution to his problem.

Bob suggested the K2MVT35 volumetric feeder, manufactured by K-Tron. Bob brought his demo unit to the plant for Mike to try. The trial proved successful and Mike ordered a K Tron unit to replace the worn out Wallace and Tiernan unit. The feeder is designed to introduce approximately 10 pounds per hour of dense soda ash into the raw water stream. The dense soda ash is used to soften the water for the Village.

Mike commented, "I liked the compact footprint of the feeder as well as the simple design and requires no lubrication because it uses timing belts to drive the feeder's screws."

"The ability to quickly and accurately change the speed to meet our feeding needs was another benefit," Mike said, noting how easy it was to incorporate the feeder into his system.

It only took a few minutes to install the feeder and get it running. With all product contact surfaces in stainless steel, the Village of Swanton can look forward to years of reliable service from their new K-Tron soda ash feeder.
