Detroit, MI -- Headworks Inc. is of one of the exclusive contractors for the George W. Kuhn Retention Facility 12 Towns Drain Project (the “GWK Project”) located in the Detroit Metropolitan Area in Michigan. Of the $144 million overall project cost, $2.4 million was awarded to Headworks® as part of the fulfillment of Contract 4. One of the largest screening contracts ever awarded in the wastewater industry, Headworks® is supplying all 22 of its screens.

Commissioner John P. McCulloch stated that, “when completed in 2005, this facility will be the largest retention treatment facility in Michigan and among the largest in the country.” The facility will dramatically aid in preventing backup and combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges into the Red Run and Clinton Rivers after major storm events, fulfilling the objective of improving environmental conditions in the twelve towns that it will serve.

The 22 Headworks Bar Screens will cover 3,000 square feet of screening area. More than 46,300 feet of tapered stainless steel bar and 3,300 feet of stainless steel roller chain are being used in the screens’ fabrication.

In a recent press release, project manager Greg Baranski for Centerline Piping, Inc., which is handling the GWK Project plumbing and mechanical subcontract states, “Everything about this project is big, and the resulting impact on the environment is equally big.” Naturally, for such a “big” project the screens would have to come from a Texas company. The 14 communities include the cities of Berkley, Birmingham, Clawson, Ferndale, Hazel Park, Huntington Woods, Madison Heights, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, Southfield, Troy along with Royal Oak Township and the Village of Beverly Hills.

Headworks is a leading supplier of water and wastewater screening systems with more than 75 years experience in the screening industry. Dependable engineering, quality workmanship and superior technology represent a significant advance in screening technology worldwide. Continued quality customer service and commitment to research and development guarantee that

Headworks remains at the forefront of excellence.

The patented Headworks Bar Screen has been manufactured since the early 80’s and installed in more than 20 countries around the world. It is complemented by a host of related screens, compactors and transporters to create complete screening systems capable of meeting all waste treatment plant configurations. These heavy-duty screening systems are created with a 20-year design life, minimizing future spare parts and maintenance costs.
