Denver, CO -- Speakers have been named for the American Water Works Association’s (AWWA) 2010 Annual Conference & Exposition (ACE10), June 20-24, in Chicago, Illinois.

Denis Hayes will be the highlighted speaker at the Opening General Session on Monday morning, June 21. As the National Coordinator of the first Earth Day, Hayes has been at the core of the modern environmental movement since its launch. He will speak about the major environmental challenges and opportunities confronting the water community today such as global warming, expanding renewable energy, and protecting oceans and natural resources to ensure a sustainable future.

“Sustainability, particularly regarding water resources and infrastructure, is essential to maintaining a successful water community,” said AWWA President Craig Woolard. “I look forward to hearing the insights the speakers can share with us.”

Additionally, Mark Shannon, professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present the Monday Keynote Address and open the professional sessions on Monday afternoon. As the director of the Center of Advanced Materials for Purification of Water with Systems (the WaterCAMPWS) and associate director of the Center for Nanoscale Chemical-Electrical-Mechanical Manufacturing Systems (Nano-CEMMS) Professor Shannon will offer insight into advancing nanoscale, microscale and mesoscale science and technologies that address real-world problems.

In addition to these respected speakers ACE10 will also offer unique events focused on sections, diversity issues, young professionals, students, public officials, operators, and international attendees as the world’s water community gathers to explore the future of safe water, gain insight into cutting- edge research and best practices, and experience the latest products and services available today.
