Kansas City, MO and Silver Spring, MD -- This year in mid-August, thousands of city, town, and county, public and private sector public works and solid waste professionals will converge in downtown Boston for two leading association conferences co-located in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Joining forces for the first time are the American Public Works Association (APWA) 2010 International Public Works Congress & Exposition, held August 15-18, and the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) WASTECON 2010, held August 15-17. Between the two groups, an estimated 8,000 professionals will be attending the two events.
Although the two conferences will each operate as separate events, attendees will be able to walk the approximately 140,000 square feet of combined exhibit space and participate in any of the over 200 educational sessions from both events.
"APWA is looking forward to co-locating the annual APWA 2010 International Public Works Congress & Exposition with SWANA's WASTECON. Both of the conferences feature high quality education sessions that include professional development and training that attendees can take back to their communities," said APWA President Larry Koehle, P.Eng., MPA.
"All public and private sector professionals who attend these two premier co-located events in Boston can take part in the educational resources, networking and benefits available. In addition, the exhibition halls, open to all attendees, will be the largest in recent memory and offer the latest equipment and solutions for both professions," Koehle said.
"By joining WASTECON with APWA's Congress, the two Associations will be providing solid waste and public works professionals with the best training, education and exhibit opportunities available," said John H. Skinner, Ph.D. SWANA, CEO and executive director.
