Nu Flow is Only Choice Under Nuclear Reactor

San Diego, CA -- When pipes reach their expected useful life and begin to fail and leak, it may be a difficult task to access the system. In a situation where a pipe is located underneath or within a building, pipe replacement is not an optimal solution, as it causes disruption to ongoing operations. Nu Flow has the technology to rehabilitate pipe systems without digging trenches or access points by using their patented Nu Flow process.

For example, Nu Flow completed a pipe-lining project at a nuclear power plant, where they rehabilitated a piping system encased in concrete running underneath a nuclear reactor and into Lake Michigan. The work was completed without the need to dig or disrupt ongoing operations because the work schedule was synchronized with scheduled down time for re-rodding the nuclear reactor.

Project: Clean and line underground drain pipe using Nu Flow's trenchless, cured-in-place, structural drain liner.

Customer: Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant, a power station generating 556 megawatts of electricity from a single unit – enough for 140,000 homes.

Site: The Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant operating since 1974 on a 900-acre site in Carlton, Wisconsin, on Lake Michigan.

System: A fifty foot 6" drain pipe encased in concrete running directly under the center of the power plant with multiple 90 degree and 45 degree bends.

Situation: A 6" drain line was leaking ten feet underneath a nuclear reactor encased in concrete. Breaking through the concrete to access the pipe was not an option due to the location.

Solution: Nu Flow and Great Lakes TV Seal Inc. were dealing with a job that had limited access and unique circumstances since the pipe discharged directly into Lake Michigan below the waterline. Due to the complexity of the job, Nu Flow contracted a scuba diver to work at the discharge point to retrieve the cable that led into Lake Michigan, aiding the team in pulling the liner into place.

The pipe was rehabilitated in two sections with the patented Nu Flow process, creating a seamless pipe inside the host pipe. While eliminating leaks in the system, the work was performed without staff displacement or disruption to normal operations.
