DENVER, CO –- AWWA has added a new seminar to its training calendar, Watershed Protection: Planning for the Future of Source Water, to help utilities ensure their future water supply by planning for source water protection. The first session of the new seminar will be held September 28-29, 2004, in Austin, TX.

Utility managers, engineers, consultants, and anyone concerned with a utility’s water supply should attend the seminar to:

-Learn about Source Water Protection Plans (SWPP) in detail, including how to determine source water susceptibility, how to develop a source water protection plan, and how to develop emergency plans

-Explore the impact of public participation and education as a vital component of source water protection

-Identify funding options for the implementation of SWPP

-Receive a notebook of all materials covered in the seminar for reference as they design and implement their own SWPP
As utilities are faced with diminishing supply, proactive planning will help ensure a high-quality, sufficient water supply for years to come.

The first seminar will be held September 28-29, 2004, in Austin, TX. A second seminar is scheduled for December 2-3, 2004, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Future dates and locations TBD.

For more information on the conference and registration, visit http://www.awwa.org/education/seminars/index.cfm?SemID=51 or call toll-free 1-800-926-7337.
