Seabrook, NH -- The Waterline Companies, The Yarmouth-Dennis Septage Treatment Facility, and Munro Distributing officially commemorated the completion of the largest operating photovoltaic array on Cape Cod with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday June, 22, 2011. The ceremony was held at the installation location on 47 Workshop Road, South Yarmouth, MA.
The ceremony was attended by both state and local officials including Senator Daniel Wolf, representative for the Cape and Islands, Jay Coburn, Director of Community Relations for Senator Wolf, Lance Lambros, District Representative to Congressman Keating representing the 10th District of Massachusetts, Town Adminstrator Peter Johnson-Staub, Department of Public Works Director George Allaire, town selectman Suzanne McAuliffe and Curtis Sears, members of the town energy committee, Steve Gavin, Robert Palmeri, Marilyn Holle, Joyce Flynn and Jack Howard and DY Regional School District Complex Supervisor Sandra Cashen.
The Towns of Yarmouth and Dennis, MA issued a request for proposal in November of 2010 for a photovoltaic array on town land. The Waterline Companies were awarded the contract based on their ability to satisfy the technical qualifications of the proposal and the capacity of their proposed system design to provide value to the town. This 276 kW roof mounted array was financially structured as a power purchase agreement and designed by Waterline to include 1,200 Canadian Solar 230W panels, a Solectria SGI 266 inverter and a Sunlink ballasted racking system. The system will generate approximately 300,000 kWh of electricty annually and will save the towns $33,000 of utility expenses in the first year alone.
“The Energy Committee, and the treatment plant Board of Management, along with the Yarmouth Board of Selectmen are delighted to partner with Waterline to install the energy saving and cost reducing PV array that will produce long term savings for the Yarmouth-Dennis Septage treatment facility.”- George Allaire, Department of Public Works Director.
“This project is one of those rare occasions where it’s a victory for everyone involved. The town of Yarmouth is going to save nearly $1,000,000 over the life of the system, without investing a dime. That alone is a remarkable feat,” noted Jeff Haydock, Director of Sales and Business Development for The Waterline Companies.
“Additionally, Munro Distributing was extremely helpful in planning with us on how to source as much material locally as we could,” Haydock said. “The inverter comes from Solectria in Lawrence, MA and even the concrete ballast blocks come from a local concrete company. Given that Waterline has spent 24 years building critical infrastructure, we are thrilled to do an energy project on a wastewater treatment facility — it’s the best of both worlds for us. Again — perfect example of a victory for everyone involved.”
