Colombian City Selects MWH Soft Technology

Broomfield, CO -- MWH Soft, Inc., a leading global provider of water resources applications software, today announced that Empresas Municipales de Cali EICE ESP (EMCALI), Colombia, has awarded MWH Soft a substantial contract for its ArcGIS-centric (ESRI, Redlands, CA) InfoWater and InfoSewer Pro software suites plus its Platinum Subscription program. The programs, chosen following a competitive review, will be used to screen and evaluate cost-effective management strategies for EMCALI's water distribution and sewer collection systems that will best accommodate continued community growth.

Wholly owned by the city of Cali, EMCALI is the third-largest utility in Colombia in terms of net income and assets. It is the exclusive provider of electrical power, sewer, and hard-wire telephone services in the city of Cali, and also handles the vast majority of water services for the municipality of 2 million. The utility operates and maintains 2,630 kilometers of water mains and 2,850 kilometers of combined sewer mains.

EMCALI selected InfoWater and InfoSewer Suites to replace its existing software after an exhaustive review of competing hydraulic modeling packages. The far-reaching evaluation covered 23 water and sewer modeling software products and included a detailed comparison list of desired features and functionality. The selection confirms the experience of customers worldwide: that MWH Soft geospatial technology is the most advanced GIS modeling and optimization system in the mid-price range, with broader functionality and a superior solution to those of its competition.

"Our water and sewer systems are very large and complex, requiring comprehensive hydraulic network analysis, optimization and GIS integration capabilities for effective modeling and management," said Ing. Eduardo Arbelaez, Manager of Engineering at EMCALI. "We determined that MWH Soft is the best company to supply the important GIS-centric technology we need to efficiently develop rigorous models and make better-informed capital improvement and operational decisions. At the close of our evaluation, we chose them as our solution partner without hesitation."

Ing. Elber de Jesus Hernandez Davila, President of Elber De J. Hernandez D-Ingenieria Civil & Ambiental, who's company was awarded the software implementation, training and support services, noted that EMCALI's decision was based not only on research, but peer input and hands-on experience. "We were very impressed with the software performance and breadth of functionality," he says. "We spoke to other companies that use MWH Soft solutions. They were all very impressed by the services and support they received from the MWH Soft professional staff." Hernandez added that the new relationship would give EMCALI direct access to the most advanced ArcGIS-centric hydraulic modeling and optimization technology. "This will allow EMCALI's engineering and GIS professionals to greatly improve the reliability, integrity and performance of their water and sewer systems, realize maximum cost savings, and be more responsive to their clients' needs."

"The success of any water or wastewater modeling and engineering project relies on a delicate balance of critical factors," said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D, President and COO of MWH Soft. "They include access to superior numerical computational capabilities, comprehensive feature sets, advanced geospatial data processing and automation, high quality performance, speed of production, seamless interoperable applications, and reliable exchange of data. Our state-of-the-art ArcGIS-centric solutions offer a unique blend of all these benefits and more. We're looking forward to working with EMCALI and establishing a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership. The utility has a long-standing tradition of engineering excellence, and our company is proud to contribute to its success."
