Alexandria, VA -- The Water Environment Federation announces the following workshops for March and April 2005:

Asset Management for Water and Wastewater Utilities
March 29 & 30
Hyatt Regency, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Asset Management is a challenge facing all water and wastewater utilities today. How does a utility implement the concept of asset management? Where does a utility manager even start? The task can seem daunting however, there are steps that utilities can take to begin to catalog and manage their assets and make improvements based on the data. The course presents a well-developed approach that can be used by utilities of all sizes to design and implement their own site-specific asset management programs.

Utility Executive Leadership: Developing Effective Leadership in a Changing Environment
April 11 & 12
Hyatt Regency, Dearborn, Michigan

This is a time of significant change for utilities: expanding regulatory requirements, significant asset management needs, rapidly evolving technology, shifting workplace demographics, and O&M cost containment to mention just a few. Successfully addressing these issues requires effective leadership. This workshop teaches the tools necessary to lead for results in this challenging environment. An interactive event, it will provide opportunities for participants to share experiences and to work through a number of exercise that will reinforce the learning experience.

Environmental Management System Webcast
April 12, 2005
2:00-3:00 p.m. EDT

WEF is sponsoring Environmental Management Systems: A Powerful Tool to Help Local Government Managers and Public Works Directors Minimize Environmental Liability, Increase Efficiency, and Improve Financial Health. The webcast, hosted by the American Public Works Association (APWA) and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), will showcase local governments that have successfully implemented environmental management systems (EMS), highlight the benefits that were achieved, identify the support that the EPA and others are providing to help local governments adopt EMSs, and identify the role that senior level managers have played in the EMS implementation process.
