Washington, D.C. -- Watson-Marlow Bredel, the leading manufacturer of peristaltic pumps, introduces its 520 NEMA 4X line of tubing pumps for environmental metering applications at WEFTEC 2005 from October 29 – November 1 at the Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C. at booth # 8963, Hall E.

With a NEMA 4X washdown sealed enclosure, the new 520 pumps offer superior reliability and performance under harsh metering conditions. Designed for accurate metering, dosing and transferring of corrosive or sensitive fluids, the new 520 series is ideal for the contamination-free transfer of harsh chemicals and materials such as sludge and abrasive slurries during water and wastewater treatment applications.

For metering sodium hypochlorite, the hypochlorite only contacts the inner wall of the tube. The peristaltic tubing pump does not require internal ball/seat check valves, eliminating damage from hypochlorite crystallization. The pump also eliminates the possibility of system vapor locking due to off-gassing of the hypochlorite. Unlike diaphragm metering pumps, the 520 does not require expensive ancillary equipment such as pulsation dampeners, artificial back pressure valves or strainers.

Additionally, for environmental chemical metering applications, the new 520 NEMA 4X series offers pump models with built-in capabilities for all SCADA systems. This includes 4-20mA input and output signals, as well as dual input signal capability for precise metering based on input signals from two separate instruments. The new 520 also incorporates a ‘stroke control’ feature that allows the manual trimming of speed/flow while operating via a 4-20mA input signal. Unlike traditional pumps that use bare stainless steel casings, the 520’s pump housing is chemically resistant to all chemicals found in water treatment and wastewater treatment plants.

Equipped with a DC brushless motor for zero-maintenance, the new 520 series offers continuous operation with minimal downtime and maximum throughput. Additionally, the new 520 pumps provide software controlled speeds ranging from 2200:1 with a set speed of 0.1% for accurate metering.

The new 520R2 pumphead features a large swept volume with low friction rollers for superior accuracy. The pumphead’s large diameter track and low rotational speeds (0.1 rpm resolution) provide increased tube life. For ultimate processing flexibility and increasing flow rates, Watson-Marlow Bredel’s 520R2 pumphead accepts eight different tubing materials and sizes up to 9.6mm and for flow rates ranging from 4 microliters/min up to 55.5 gph (3.5l/min) at 30 psi.
