New York and Nova Scotia -- Calgon Carbon Corp. announced two significant achievements of its Odor Control Business group — two contract awards valued at more than $2.6 million for the supply of Phoenix Odor Control Systems for the reduction of municipal wastewater odors.

Calgon Carbon received contracts for Phoenix Systems for Onondaga County, N.Y., and for the City of Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The four Phoenix systems for Onondaga County will be installed at the Midland CSO facility in 2007. The six Phoenix units for Halifax will be supplied to the Halifax North, Dartmouth and Herring Cove Wastewater Treatment Plants, with deliveries beginning in November of 2005.

Calgon Carbon has patented the Phoenix odor control process, which employs the company’s patented Centaur water washable carbon for the removal of odorous hydrogen sulfide gas from the environment. The company has provided over 120 Phoenix systems to municipal wastewater facilities since 1997.

"We are pleased with the progress that our Odor Control business has made this year and with the confidence shown by the City of Syracuse and the City of Halifax in our products and technology," said Bob O’Brien, senior vice president of Calgon Carbon. “These recent achievements are consistent with our company's long-term strategy to be the market leader in municipal odor control."
