MORGANTOWN, WV -- The National Environmental Services Center (NESC) helps small communities by providing wastewater, drinking water, and solid waste information, and referral services. NESC offers the following information from the Sump and Sewage Pump Manufacturers Association:

“Sizing Guidelines for New or Replacement Sewage Pumps” (Item #WWBLDM103). The Sump and Sewage Pump Manufacturers Association prepared these recommended guidelines for sizing and replacing sewage pumps and for selecting a proper pump for a project. Pump capacity requirements, total dynamic head, and solids handling requirements are discussed in this booklet, as well as a detailed example to help users follow guidelines. Cost: Free

“Recommended Installation & Maintenance for New or Replacement Sewage Pumps” (Item #WWBLOM57). This booklet provides guidelines for proper installation and maintenance of sewage pumps. Topics covered include pump and basin, inlet connection, discharge pipe, electrical service, alarm system, and maintenance and troubleshooting guide. Cost: Free

“Recommended Standards for Sump, Effluent, and Sewage Pumps” (Item #WWBLRG46). These standards for sump, effluent, and sewage pumps provide a uniform method of testing pumps that helps aid in the determination of proper application and selection of equipment. Four sections are used to describe these standards: a general overview, definitions and nomenclature, the uniform method of testing and rating section, and the recommended minimum specifications of the electric components of pumps and applicable regulations.
