Israel - Finding an efficient, cost effective solution for treating wastewater is fast becoming one of the world’s most urgent environmental problems. Many small communities around the world (up to 5000 residents) do not have a waste treatment system, or use plants that are inefficient, expensive and dangerous to the environment. Treating sewage waste of small communities and preventing the hazardous pollution which comes from unregulated waste dumping is an urgent global priority.
BioMem, Ltd. has developed a sophisticated, inexpensive (capital and running costs) compact system, with sophisticated automated control, to treat the waste of small communities using a breakthrough Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) technology. BioMem, Ltd. has signed a contract with the French producers of the world’s most sophisticated hollow fiber membranes, and will have the exclusive rights to use this in their patent pending Bio-Reactor in Israel.
BioMem’s total tertiary level purification process uses an Ultra Filtration membrane that is made up of thousands of hollow fibers with perforations of 10 nanometers (0.01 micron), linked together in a U-shaped chain.
BioMem’s unique MBR technology provides high quality recycled wastewater that passes through a complete purification process, including tertiary-level as follows:
-After general pre-filtration, the water moves to the modular system where two compact and intensive processes are carried out simultaneously: an anaerobic and aerobic biological process that gathers the solids and reduces the solid content in the water.
-The wastewater is moved by a continuous cross-flow filtering and goes through the membranes by an additional vacuum.
-Air flow is constant into the Bio Reactor and the Membrane Module, which accelerates the biological process in the bio-reactor, and prevent accumulation of biomass in the modules.
-The high filtration size affords the possibility to work with high biomass, high biodegradation level and low but stable sludge.
-The position of the modules Out side of the Bio-reactor make more easy and more clean all intervention.
The result is a drastic reduction in the contaminant and an exceptionally high quality of treated (purified) water. Laboratory tests have proven that the type of membrane used by BioMem blocks 99.999% of all waste bacteria. BioMem’s MBR technology solves the problem of unplugging, which is found in many of today’s membrane treatments, by using a new non-plugging system to prevent membrane fouling.
BioMem’s high quality recycled wastewater meets stringent international standards and can be used for all public and agricultural irrigation and for other large applications. The innovative new system takes up less than 70% of the space of conventional systems, has low installation, operation and maintenance costs and provides purified, treated wastewater which can be used immediately without further filtration or sanitization.
BioMem’s system is automated and designed to work continuously under computer control, thus system cleaning is more efficient and less labor intensive. It will handle the entire household sewage waste of the community, and treat it to the level acceptable for recycled use.
