Optical Ports Improve Long-term Water Quality Monitoring

YELLOW SPRINGS, OH -- To meet the growing need for improved environmental monitoring, YSI introduces its upgraded 6600 V2 sonde. Gather water quality data in near real-time with this “workhorse” instrument, which reliably measures up to 15 parameters and has a long battery life and anti-biofouling wipers for extended deployments.


New Optical Sensors Provide Greater Monitoring Options

Users can choose between two and four optical ports on the new 6600 V2 sonde. In addition to turbidity, chlorophyll, and rhodamine, YSI now offers these optical sensors:

-ROXTM Reliable Optical Dissolved Oxygen, with less membrane maintenance
-Fluorescence-based Blue-Green Algae, for early warning of harmful algal blooms and other applications

Individual wipers on all optical sensors offer the most effective biofouling prevention available and stability over extended periods in even the most productive waters.

Applications for the YSI 6600 include:

-Long-term unattended monitoring
-Source water monitoring
-Integration into buoys or vertical profiling systems
-Underway sampling with flow cell for horizontal mapping
-Spot sampling with the YSI 650 handheld logger/display

Upgrades Available

YSI is committed to offering reliable and cost-effective water monitoring solutions. To prolong customers’ investments in YSI equipment, we are offering V2 upgrades for these existing 6-Series sondes: 6600, 6920, and 6820. Upgrades are now available from YSI Authorized Service Centers and include the new V2 bulkhead, an Optical Dissolved Oxygen sensor, and firmware/software upgrades. In addition, an experienced YSI service technician will fully test and calibrate the sonde.

Third-party Sensor Verification

The 6600 V2 sonde uses sensor technology that was verified through independent testing in the US EPA’s Environmental Technology Verification Program (ETV).
