Central-Flo : Upflow Continuous
Backwash Filters Perform
Conroe,
TX -- The Centra-flo Upflow Filter from Applied Process
Technology is a highly efficient, continuous backwash sand
filtration system designed for superior, consistent
performance in all applications requiring the removal of
suspended solids.
Applications include drinking water filtration, the tertiary
treatment of wastewater and the treatment of many types of
industrial process waters and wastes. The upflow filter
provides a continuous supply of filtered water without
interruptions for backwash cleaning cycles. Filter sizes are
available with throughputs from 10 to 10,000 gallons per
minute (gpm).
The
Centra-flo filter combines an upflow design with deep bed
filtration and continuous cleaning to achieve high quality
filtrate with consistently low headloss at varying flow
rates. With Centra-flo, there are no shutdowns for backwash
cycles, no internal or external moving parts, and its
continuous backwash design provides a steady reject stream
that eliminates backwash hydraulic surges.

New : Biosolids Minimization
Product Line
Cary,
NC -- Kruger Inc. announces the introduction of two
additional biosolids treatment technologies to its existing
product offering. The focus of Kruger’s new technologies is
efficient biosolids minimization.
Mike
Gutshall, Kruger’s President, recognizes the importance of
such technologies for the future “given increases in the
price of energy impacting hauling costs and operating costs
everywhere.”
The
Kruger ATHOS® process offers wastewater treatment plants a
no sludge discharge option. ATHOS® operates in a closed
environment under elevated temperature and pressure yielding
an inert end product with a 98% volume reduction while
generating no odor. Kruger’s Thelys® process is a
performance enhancer for anaerobic digestion that results in
significantly higher biogas production, increased volatile
solids destruction, and improved dewaterability.
These
two new technologies will augment Kruger’s recently
introduced BioCon® biosolids dryer and the established
BioPasteur® process.
Kruger
will be showcasing all of their biosolids treatment
technologies at the WEF/AWWA 2005 Joint Residuals And
Biosolids Conference.

Insituform Technologies : Project Receives Award
St.
Louis, MO -- The American Public Works Association
(APWA) Michigan Chapter has named the City of River
Rouge’s Dwight Street sewer rehabilitation project
“Project of the Year.” St. Louis-based Insituformв
Technologies, Inc. was the primary contractor for the
project. The award will be presented at the APWA
Michigan Chapter meeting in May.
The project will now be
entered into the APWA’s national competition in the
“Structures Less than $2 Million” category. The awards
program recognizes companies that demonstrate good
construction management techniques, ability to meet
schedules, safety performance, community relations,
environmental protection, unusual accomplishments, and
additional value.
The River Rouge project
included the rehabilitation of 15,740 feet of a
1930s-vintage, 66-inch diameter brick sewer in a
flood-prone area where nearby homes had required costly
repairs after sustaining flood damage.
Insituform worked within a
fast-track schedule required to obtain Environmental
Protection Agency grant funding. The original schedule
extended from July 1 through September 1, 2004. Working
24 hours a day in two 12-hour shifts, Insituform
completed the project two weeks ahead of schedule, in
mid-August. The early completion produced a savings of
more than $30,000 from the original project budget of
$986,383.
Insituform’s leadership on
the job included Ken Quillen, project manager, and Sam
Vartanian, general superintendent and site manager. In
addition to the city of River Rouge, its managing
agency, Geomanagement LLC, and Insituform, the project
team included engineering firm Tetra Tech and the Wayne
County Department of Environment.
Insituform Technologies, Inc.
is a leading worldwide provider of proprietary
technologies and services for rehabilitating sewer,
water, and other underground piping systems without
digging and disruption.

Mr. Cimbalo wants to reduce MBAS in plant wastewater:
My facility (located in
Northern Mexico) uses hot water containing detergent for
cleaning metal parts prior to painting. The municipal sewer
authority is requiring that we lower the MBAS concentration
in our effluent to less than 20 mg/l.
I am looking for treatment
technology to remove or reduce the MBAS or alternate
detergents which do not contribute MBAS to the effluent. Any
help or comments will be appreciated.
