For the five days of the fair, exhibitors at IFAT 2002 will be putting on a display of all the latest trends and developments in the field of water supply, sewage, waste disposal and recycling, road cleansing, winter road services, disposal of old industrial waste, soil treatments, measurement, control and laboratory technology, services, exhaust gas and air cleansing, and science and research.

+20% More Exhibitors

About ten weeks before the start of IFAT 2002, registrations are already above the level reached at the same point before the last event. At present 1,968 exhibitors and 136 additionally represented companies from 39 countries have registered to take part.

The organizer has also received confirmation of attendance from ministers of the environment from all over the world and from many high-ranking delegations of visitors from Germany and abroad, in particular from overseas and from Eastern Europe.

In the section on water treatment, too, there are considerably more firms this time that specialize in commercial and rainwater supplies. And, another first there will be a display of machinery and equipment by various manufacturers. Topical themes to be tackled at the fair will of course include the subject of deposits on cans and the current legislation on water and waste water.

Concurrent Symposium by European Water Association

Taking place concurrently with IFAT 2002 in Munich, is the 12th European Water, Sewage and Solid Waste Symposium, organized by the European Water Association (EWA) in cooperation with the German Association for Water, Waste Water and Waste (DVWK). Presented at this symposium will be a series of lectures and workshops on topical themes such as TV inspection to increase efficiency in operation and maintenance, membrane technology for drinking water and sewage, waste incineration in Europe and the logistics of waste management.

On all days of the fair the German Federal Office for the Environment will be holding 'IFAT Talk' panel discussions on current environmental themes. The talks will also be broadcast live on the Internet ( www.umweltbundesamt.de ).

"..Project is Valued at $40M"

Earth Tech Wins Water Project in Scotland

Project will provide reliable water for two of Scotland's most northerly regions

LONG BEACH, Calif., April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Scottish Water has awarded Earth Tech, a business unit of Tyco International Ltd., in a joint venture with Morrison Construction, a major water project in the Caithness and Sutherland regions of the Scottish Highlands.

The project -- referred to as the North Coast Regional Scheme -- involves modifications to an existing water intake source at Loch Calder, construction of a new water treatment works (WTW) facility, 53 miles of pipeline, two reservoirs and two booster stations. Work on this design/build project is valued at $40 million and is scheduled to begin at the water treatment facility in June. The entire distribution system is scheduled to begin providing improved water by December 2003.

"Most of this infrastructure was built in the '50s and '60s and is in dire need of upgrading and refurbishing," said Diane C. Creel, president of Earth Tech. "This project is part of Scottish Water's $250 million effort to improve the drinking water in this area and it will provide clean water for the more than 30,000 residents in Caithness and Sutherland."

When completed, water will be abstracted from Loch Calder and conveyed via an existing raw water pipeline to the new works. The treated water will be distributed throughout Caithness and North Sutherland using a combination of existing main lines and the new pipeline that will run from Loch Calder WTW along the North Sutherland coastline to Tongue. Two service reservoirs and booster pumping stations along the pipeline complete the scheme project.

The new Loch Calder WTW facility will have a capacity of 4.6 million gallons of water per day and will supply water for all of the Caithness regions and the northern section of Sutherland; it will replace 11 existing water treatment facilities.

Chinese WWTP Orders Met-Pro Odor Control Systems

HARLEYSVILLE, Pa., April 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- William L. Kacin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Met-Pro Corporation (NYSE: MPR) , announced today that the Company's Duall Division, through Met-Pro's International Division's efforts, has received an order to supply six Model PT500-25MD two-stage packaged odor control scrubber systems to the Nanjing Municipal Water Co., Ltd., Nanjing, People's Republic of China, for removal of odors from their waste processing operation. These systems, to be manufactured at Duall's Owosso, Michigan facility, take advantage of the synergies within Met-Pro Corporation by utilizing Fybroc Division pumps. The total value of this order is $1.5 million and is scheduled for shipment in the second quarter of this fiscal year.

Click hereContributing to Met-Pro's success in securing this order is a strong alliance with a Chinese distributor reinforced by Duall's large installed base of odor control systems worldwide. Particularly important to this order were Duall's successful $900,000 project of seven scrubbers with Chartered Semiconductor Partners (CSP) in Singapore; familiarity of the Chinese distributor with Duall scrubbers at the Hyperion Waste Water Treatment Plant in Los Angeles, California; and a site visit by the Chief Engineer of the Nanjing Municipal Design and Research Institute to Duall's $1.1 million odor control installation in Atlanta, Georgia that was the "Featured Facility Tour" at the Water Environment Federation Annual Conference and Exposition in October, 2001.

"This will be our first major installation of an odor control system in China," said Kacin. "The People's Republic of China joined the World Trade Organization and has begun the cleanup of its environment in preparation for hosting the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. We are actively involved in developing the vast potential for our products in China through a number of means including sales visits, joint trade show exhibits and translation of selected sales literature into Chinese. We are excited about our future in this market.

"As mentioned in prior news releases," continued Kacin, "the past few months have been particularly challenging. We are encouraged by our success in being selected for this project and it reinforces our belief that circumstances are improving for the release of other projects that we are pursuing."

Met-Pro is a manufacturer of air and water pollution control systems; fume scrubbers and odor control equipment; fluid handling equipment for corrosive, abrasive and high temperature liquids; filter products for drinking water, industrial and custom applications; wet and dry particulate dust collectors; specialty chemicals for controlling corrosion and reducing lead/copper in public drinking water; and state-of-the-art fans for laboratory and clean room applications.

Mr. Thomas wants to remove nitrogen from wastewater:

I am looking at treating contaminated waters from a manufacturing process. This waste stream mainly contains oil emulsions, suspended solids, as well as low levels of metals. Using a chemical flocculants has removed all above mentioned contaminants to acceptable levels, however total Kjeldahl Nitrogen remains 260ppm.

I am looking for a method to reduce the Nitrogen levels to below 100 ppm.
