CH2M Hill To Take Over Hanford Tank Farm Operations
------------------------------------------------------------
Richland, WA - CH2M HILL has signed a definitive agreement to
acquire Lockheed Martin Hanford Company (LMHC) and will take
over the operation, waste characterization and retrieval of
high level nuclear wastes from the aging tank farm on the
U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Hanford Site in
southeastern Washington.
"Our mission at Hanford will be to continue to safely manage
the tank waste while working in partnership with the Office
of River Protection to safely and efficiently retrieve the
waste for treatment," said Ralph R. Peterson, CH2M HILL
President and CEO. "The sooner we deliver on that mission,
the greater value we'll return to DOE, the Hanford community
and taxpayers across the country."
CH2M HILL has served DOE and the Hanford Site specifically for
more than 30 years. The firm is presently supporting the
Hanford environmental restoration program.
CH2M HILL also currently serves as the management and
integration contractor for the DOE's Rocky Flats Closure
Project in a joint venture with ICF Kaiser. Since taking
over the clean up of Rocky Flats in 1995 the joint venture
company Kaiser-Hill has expedited the Rocky Flats site
closure schedule by more than 20 years.
CH2M HILL plans to work closely with the DOE Office of
River Protection and build on the momentum already
established by LMHC. In addition CH2M HILL plans to forge
strong working relationships with local communities, unions,
regulators and the Washington congressional delegation.
"We are delighted to have this opportunity to work in
partnership with the DOE's Office of River Protection
Program on such an important project," said Dr. Jim Ferris
, Group President for CH2M HILL's Energy, Environment and
Systems business. "It gratifies us even more to have such
a talented group of employees from Lockheed Martin Hanford
joining CH2M HILL. We know they will continue their
exemplary efforts to achieve program goals in a safe
and expedited manner."
CH2M HILL will officially take ownership of LMHC once
the Anti-Trust Division of the U.S. Justice Department and
the Federal Trade Commission completes a Hart Scott
Rodino Act review of the competitive impacts of the
acquisition. In the meantime, CH2M HILL will immediately
dispatch a transition team to ensure that the project
continues without interruption and that workers and
members of the community are informed about the ownership
change. An employee-owned company, CH2M HILL was founded
in Corvallis, Oregon in 1946. Today, the firm serves
clients on six continents with engineering, construction
and operations services for environmental, energy, water,
transportation and industrial infrastructure.

Ionics Awarded WWTP in Guadalupe, Texas Power Project
------------------------------------------------------------
WATERTOWN, Mass. … Ionics, Incorporated (NYSE-ION) announced
that it has received a contract with Duke/Fluor Daniel of
Aliso Viejo, CA to supply and install an integrated water
and wastewater treatment system for the new 1000 MW power
plant in Guadalupe County, Texas. The value of the contract
is approximately $9 million.
The power plant’s integrated water and wastewater system will
treat up to 9 million gallons of river water and 600,000
gallons of plant wastewater and will utilize several
technologies from The Ionics Toolbox®. These include
softening/clarification to supply cooling tower makeup water,
and Ionics’ proprietary evaporation, crystallization, and
electrodeionization (EDI) technologies to recover 99% of the
plant’s wastewater for reuse. The Ionics system will minimize
the plant’s water consumption, produce high quality boiler
feedwater, recycle water to the cooling tower, and provide
for a "zero liquid discharge" facility.
According to Arthur L. Goldstein, Ionics’ Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer, "The award of the Guadalupe Power Project
represents a strong vote of confidence in Ionics’ ability
to provide cost-effective water and wastewater treatment and
reuse solutions for industrial clients, a concept we refer
to as Ionics Total Water Management®."
Ionics is a global separations technology company involved
in the manufacture and sale of membranes, equipment and own
and operate services for the purification, disinfection,
concentration, treatment and analysis of water, wastewater
and ultrapure water. Over a period of more than 40 years,
Ionics has built more desalination plants than any company
in the world. Ionics has been a pioneer in purified water
with its worldwide five-gallon brand, Aqua Cool® Pure
Bottled Water.

New Soil Moisturizing System Help Remedeation
------------------------------------------------------------
Water is essential to all living organisms from man to microbe.
It is a necessary component in the successful remedeation of
contaminated soil through bio-augmentation. The problem has
always been how much water is too much and how much is too
little. Too much and the soil becomes anaerobic, to little
and the microbes dehydrate and die.
Without the use of an expensive and cumbersome piece of equipment
to mix and moisturize simultaneously we have had to rely on
the imprecise application of water with a water truck or an
inefficient landscape type irrigation system, until now.
U.S. Microbics has developed the Soil Moisturizing System™
(SMS) which measures the moisture content of the soil in
centibars and based on the high and low limits set, triggers
the SMS on and off accordingly. Micro spinner sprayers
connected to polypropylene tubing apply the water in an even
rain like manner over every square inch of the windrow
when commanded to do so.
The command controller is a multifunctional, variable program,
solar powered (optional), and stand-alone unit. The optional
solar powered feature allows for isolated applications. An
individual remote control valve individually controls each
windrow or section of windrow with a moisture sensor/s located
within the windrow itself. This type of flexibility in
application allows only the moisture necessary to be applied.
The Soil Moisturizing System™ is both time and cost effective.
It will eliminate the guesswork and insure consistency
throughout the process.

Mr. Taylor wants help with the EPA:
We manufacture a liner that fits directly into a slip in a
marina. The liner allows a boat to pull in, once the boat
is in the rear portion of the liner can the be raised
separating the water around the hull of the boat from the
water outside in the marina.
This allows the boat owner to treat the water around the
hull of the boat, eliminating hull maintenance. The current
way they treat the water in the liner is putting swimming
pool chlorine in to sterilize the water.
What we are trying to accomplish is eliminating any algae
growth from building up in the liner. The EPA says that
putting anything in the water that kills any organisms is
not allowed.
We are trying to find a cost effective alternative to chlorine
to make the EPA happy. Any suggestions or comments would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jason Taylor
