Alliance Formed : Severn Trent
and RGF Environmental
Fort
Washington, PA -- Severn Trent Services, Inc. of Fort
Washington, Pa., and RGF Environmental Group of West Palm
Beach, Fla., have formed a strategic U.S. partnering
agreement designed to broaden each company's evaporation
technology offering for the industrial wastewater treatment
market. The partnership enables each company to sell the
other's evaporation technology, effectively expanding their
respective product offerings to better meet their customers'
varying applications and wastewater disposal objectives.
Severn Trent Services offers the
Samsco™ line of wastewater evaporators and vacuum
distillation equipment. RGF Environmental Group manufactures
the RGF Thermo-Oxidizer wastewater evaporator. The two
companies have nearly forty years of combined experience in
industrial wastewater treatment application and process
engineering.
The Samsco line of equipment
includes immersion-heated evaporators with an elevated
serpentine heat exchanger that permits solids to accumulate
below the heat exchanger. This unique evaporator
configuration utilizes an open coil, round/tubular design,
so that solids fall harmlessly past the heat exchanger.
The RGF Thermo-Oxidizer
wastewater evaporator features RGF's proprietary dry chamber
flash evaporation technology. Thermo oxidation eliminates
corrosion and sludge problems.
Prior to the development of
evaporation, companies used disposal technologies that tied
them to sewer discharge or forced them to have large volumes
of wastewater hauled off-site. Both approaches increase a
company's exposure to ever-tightening environmental
regulations and their associated costs.
Len Graziano, president and CEO
of Severn Trent Services, said, "The Samsco line represents
the industry standard for water evaporator design and
manufacturing. RGF's flash evaporation technology is
complementary to ours and enables us to offer alternative,
quality evaporation solutions to our customers."
About Severn Trent Services
Severn Trent Services, based in
Fort Washington, Pa., is a leading supplier of water and
wastewater treatment solutions. The company's broad range of
products and services is concentrated around disinfection,
instrumentation, and filtration technologies, pipeline
analysis, rehabilitation and repair services, contract
operating services and state-of-the-art residential metering
products and services. Our international management services
business provides support in all aspects of water and
wastewater utility development and transformation. Severn
Trent Services is a member of the Severn Trent Plc group of
companies.

Iraq : Minister of Public Works
Seeks Assistance
WASHINGTON,
DC -- At a meeting today hosted by the American Water Works
Association (AWWA), Iraq’s Minister of Municipalities and
Public Works asked leaders from the North American water
community to provide technical and operational expertise to
assist her country in rebuilding its water infrastructure.
Minister Nesreen Mustafa Siddeek Berwari, who oversees
42,000 Iraqi government employees, told a gathering of 20
water utility experts and industry manufacturers that years
of conflict and “isolation from information” have left the
country’s infrastructure in severe disrepair. Approximately
40 percent of Iraqis do not have access to safe drinking
water and only 10 percent have adequate wastewater services.
“Iraqi engineers are very hungry for information,” Minister
Berwari said.
AWWA
President Kathryn McCain said the association would
facilitate tours of North American water utilities for Iraqi
engineers and coordinate the exchange of technical
information and training between the association and Iraqi
officials. She also invited Iraq to participate in the U.S.
Department of Commerce’s International Buyer’s Program,
conducted at AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE)
in San Francisco, June 12-16, 2005.
“AWWA
has the unique opportunity to assist Iraqi engineers as they
rebuild and improve their water services,” McCain said.
“Safe drinking water is absolutely critical to public health
protection, economic development and overall quality of
life.”
Today’s meeting, which took place at The Willard
InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C., happened at the
joint request of the U.S. Department of State and Department
of Commerce. AWWA’s Manufacturers/Associates Council worked
with the Water and Wastewater Equipment Manufacturers
Association (WWEMA) to bring to the table representatives
from a variety of water industry equipment manufacturers.
Decentralizing the management of utilities in Iraq is one of
her greatest challenges, Minister Berwari told the group.
Her Ministry wants to give more local control to water
utilities and municipalities, but a decentralized structure
is entirely new to her country. She also added that she
wants to learn more about the public-private partnerships
that have proven successful in operating North American
water utilities.
She
also encouraged the manufacturers and consultants to not
fear doing work in Iraq, pointing out that much of the
country is safe. “It’s not stopping us from doing what we
need to do,” she said.
AWWA
is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information,
and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of drinking
water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest
organization of water professionals in the world. AWWA
advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the
efforts of the full spectrum of the drinking water
community. Through our collective strength we become better
stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and
the environment.

industry. Developed in consultation with major original
equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and pharmaceutical companies,
it is an extension of Trojan’s worldwide leadership in the
application of UV technology.
The
eight TrojanUVLogic™ Pharma models treat flow rates from 44
GPM (10 m 3 /h) up to 1,012 GPM (230 m 3 /h) with a single
reactor.
"Our
new pharma units incorporate leading edge thinking in terms
of design, flexibility and application," said Marvin
DeVries, President of Trojan Technologies. "They meet the
high purity water needs, as well as the consistency and

Mr. Hoffmaster
needs help with package plants:
I am in the process of
designing a sewer collection and reuse system for a small
community.
Due to the limited flows the
system will encounter (peak flows of approx 0.3 MGD) I have
been looking more in the direction of using a package plant.
I was hoping some of you may have recommendations of
reliable WW package plants that you have a working knowledge
of. (Click

importance.
3. What is sludge age, and it's importance.
4. A WWTP has a rapid gravity sand filters, does it
contribute to remove BOD5, SS and can we determine its
efficiency?
5. A colored effluent ,does it affect the UV disinfection
and can we determine its efficiency?
6. What will happen if we have a low MLSS?
7. The ratio BOD:N is use for what, what can we deduce about
the plant ,...?
