Hot New Process Creates Bigger, Better HDPE Fittings
------------------------------------------------------------
JANUARY 29, 2001, MISSOULA, MT - Northern Specialty has
introduced a new process for fabricating the fittings used
with large diameter HDPE pipe. The process, called BevelFusion,
uses proprietary thermal fusion technology to produce stronger,
reducing-tee fittings for pipes 14" to 63" in diameter.
According to the company's General Manager, Neil Sheldon,
"we've taken thermal fusion to a new dimension - literally."
He explains that traditionally, only the ends of large pipe
could be thermal butt fused. By contrast, he says, "we found
a way to 'scale up' the fusion process, and that enables us
to fuse large branch pipes to large main pipes - at virtually
any angle." Since the pipe sections are thermally fused at
high temperature, they become a single unit that has more
structural integrity and closer tolerances than a typical
fitting.
"Our customers are pleased with the new fittings," notes
Sheldon. "They like them in the field, because they're
strong enough to be installed faster and to withstand
rougher handling. The angles are more precise as well,
eliminating a lot of misalignment problems." He adds that
since there are no extra parts, the fittings are lighter,
more compact, and "more professional in appearance."
Sheldon points out that BevelFusion is actually a three-step
fabricating process. First, the branch pipe section is cut
and beveled to produce the specified angle. Second, the
main pipe section is cut and beveled to produce a perfect
match. Finally, the company fuses the two beveled pipes
using an innovation it refers to as the Variable Degree
Wedge Heating process. Sheldon maintains the resulting
fittings are a better value, since the BevelFusion process
is more efficient, allowing the company to make better
fittings for about the same price.
Northern Specialty, Inc. was founded in 1992 as a distributor
of HDPE pipe. In 1997, the company began manufacturing
fittings. Northern Specialty currently maintains an
inventory of the most common sizes of its Bevel Fusion
large HDPE fittings, produced by factory-trained and
certified technicians. It also makes fittings to order,
and in addition offers a full line HDPE pipe, stub ends,
reducers.

------------------------------------------------------------
MANSFIELD, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2001--The Gorman-Rupp
Company (AMEX:GRC) reported record sales, earnings, and
dividends for the year ended December 31, 2000. This marks the
14th consecutive year Gorman-Rupp achieved record sales and
earnings, and the 28th consecutive year increased cash dividends
have been paid to shareholders.
Net sales for 2000 were $190,144,000 compared to $181,945,000 in
1999, an increase of 4.5%. Net income increased 5.5% in 2000
to $13,796,000 compared to $13,081,000 in 1999, equal to
earnings per share of $1.61 and $1.52 in 2000 and 1999,
respectively. The results for 2000 included a non-recurring
expense recorded at the Mansfield Division associated with the
moving of machines and materials into the newly completed
manufacturing facility, resulting in a $1.1 million reduction
in operating income. This non-recurring expense reduced after
tax income for the year by $711,000 equal to earnings per
share of $0.08.
Operating accomplishments for 2000 resulted from international
sales increasing nearly 22%, representing 19% of total sales,
and the continuation of growth in the water and wastewater,
fire, and original equipment markets. The Company also has
an order backlog of $74 million at December 31, 2000, an
increase of 24% from 1999.
All of the Company's subsidiaries and divisions were profitable
during the year 2000 and the Company's financial position
remains strong at December 31. Patterson Pump Company
recorded record sales and profits for 2000 on increased
orders for pumps and demand for fabricated components used
in the gas turbine power generation industry. Operating
results at Patterson Pump were also reflective of
accomplishments associated with Six Sigma practices, a
customer quality and cost reduction program.
Net sales for the fourth quarter 2000 were $45,494,000
compared to $44,738,000 in 1999. Net income in the fourth
quarter 2000 was $2,907,000 compared to $2,936,000 in 1999,
equal to earnings per share of $0.34 for both 2000 and
1999. The results for the quarter included a non-recurring
expense of completing the machine move to the new facility
reducing after tax income in the fourth quarter 2000 by
$70,000 equal to $0.01 per share.
Commenting on the results, Mr. Jeffrey S. Gorman, President
and Chief Executive Officer stated, "We are excited about
the record accomplishments the Company made in 2000,
especially in light of the slowing economy. I credit the
employees with the continual success of the Company."
Looking ahead to 2001, Mr. Gorman said, "We believe the
Company is well positioned to continue to report operating
success and given a stable U.S. economy believe 2001 will
be another good year."
The Gorman-Rupp Company is a manufacturer of pumps and
related equipment for water, wastewater, construction,
industrial, petroleum, original equipment, agricultural,
fire and government applications.

Chicago Bridge & Iron Completes Acquisition of PDM Divisions
------------------------------------------------------------
PLAINFIELD, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 7, 2001--Chicago
Bridge & Iron Company N.V. (NYSE & Euronext Amsterdam: CBI)
today completed its acquisition of the Engineered Construction
Division and the Water Division of Pitt-Des Moines, Inc.
(AMEX: PDM) of The Woodlands, Texas, in a transaction valued
at $84 million in cash and stock. The two divisions, which
form a portion of PDM's overall business, had combined revenues
of $244 million in 2000. The acquisition is expected to be
slightly accretive to CB&I's earnings in 2001.
"This is an exciting and historic day for Chicago Bridge &
Iron," said Gerald M. Glenn, CB&I's Chairman, President and
CEO. "With this acquisition, we are bringing together two
entities that each enjoy more than 100 years of leadership
and innovation in the engineering and construction industry
to create a new organization that will offer the best of both
companies to our customers.
"The PDM Engineered Construction and Water Divisions offer
many products that are complementary to those of CB&I, enabling
us to extend and broaden our product offerings and leverage
our infrastructure across the combined entity. In addition,
the PDM assets we are acquiring are similar to our existing
operations, helping to ensure a smooth integration. Together
with Howe-Baker International, this transaction will put us
over the $1 billion mark in total revenues. We are confident
our customers, employees and shareholders will benefit from
this combination."
The PDM divisions will be integrated with current CB&I business
units to operate as CB&I Industrial, focusing on the aboveground
storage business in the U.S.; CB&I Water, focusing on the
municipal water storage and treatment business in the U.S.;
and CB&I CSA, focusing on the aboveground storage business
in Central and South America.
CB&I expects to achieve synergies as a result of the transaction,
including cost savings from the elimination of redundant
operations and synergies resulting from the expansion of its
customer base and application of best practices. The industrial
aboveground storage business is expected to benefit from the
emerging upturn in the hydrocarbon industry, while the water
business is expected to experience steady growth driven by
clean water requirements and the need for municipalities to
continue to add water storage capacity.
PDM's Engineered Construction division, headquartered in Houston,
engineers, fabricates and constructs storage tanks and systems,
process systems, and unique plate structures for the petroleum,
petrochemical, cryogenic, liquid natural gas, defense and
aerospace industries. This division employs about 600 people
and had 2000 revenues of $140 million. PDM's Water division,
headquartered in Pittsburgh, designs, fabricates and constructs
water storage tank projects including conventional styles
such as ground storage reservoirs and standpipes, steel elevated
tanks and composite elevated tanks as well as unique projects
involving one-of-a-kind tanks designed for specific applications.
This division employs about 400 people and had 2000 revenues
of $104 million.
More information about the transaction and the PDM Engineered
Construction and Water Divisions is available on CB&I's Web
site at:
